PURPOSE:
The purpose of the #935 Self-Contained Program is to provide an effective academic and behavioral program in a safe, structured, and encouraging environment while supporting them in learning, practicing, and implementing the skills necessary to be successful in mainstream school, home, and community settings.
Students enrolled in the Self-Contained program will transition back to their referring school district once they have demonstrated readiness for reintegration. The decision is made by the educational team based on evidence of the student’s behavioral self-control, academic growth, and social progress necessary for success in their home school environment. It is assumed students will continue to need a special education program in their referring district once they exit the restrictive self contained/co-located mental health program.
A typical transition begins with a part-time schedule, gradually increasing the student’s time in the referring school. Whenever possible, mainstreaming is scheduled in the morning, allowing the student to continue receiving support from Solutions Behavioral Health in the afternoon.
When the student fully returns to their home district from the Self-Contained program, classroom and mental health staff will continue to follow up with the referring district team for 6 additional weeks.
